eBay Offering for sale….a Vintage RARE Metlox Calif. USA Flamingo Cookie Jar produced Mid Century 1950’s 1960’s. Information according to the ‘Collector’s Encyclopedia of Cookie Jars, Book II’ by Fred Roerig and Joyce Herndon Roerig….”The FLAMINGO was one of the most unpopular cookie jars with the consumer. It was designed and produced, and nobody bought it. Consequently, there was limited production”. It was valued in 1997 at $425 – $475 and as with most collectibles, has probably increased in value considering age and production numbers. I am a full fledged packrat and this cookie jar has been a treasured collectible in my own personal flamingo collection for many years. The ceramic cookie jar is marked on the bottom…METLOX CALIF USA. Measuring approx. 13” tall X 8” X 4 1/2”, it is in beautiful original condition with only factory flaws as seen in photos….2 flaws on base that are glazed over and 1 that would appear to be a factory flaw and not a chip, on the bottom rim of lid where there is no glaze….that is my opinion and I do not claim to be an expert but try my best to honestly describe flaws as I see them. A rare find and a must have addition for the serious flamingo collector! This graceful iconic bird will fit into any decor be it Eames Era, Mid Century Modern, 50s diner, 60s atomic Jetson’s Space Age, funky 70s, tropical, eclectic, retro, vintage or antique, country farmhouse, rustic, industrial or primitive. Better yet, display it in the vintage Airstream RV while road tripping on Route 66. Flamingos marked Will George or Brad Keebler will add character to any flamingo decor and especially this rare collectible!
